Unlike the production years before ’95 (’78 and ’86), Corvette Pace Cars in 1995 were not assigned a VIN sequence of their own, but rather assumed VINs that were mixed in with those of other Corvettes assembled at the same time. As is the usual case at the assembly plant, these cars were not produced in a single batch but were rather placed in among other Corvettes as they came down the assembly line at Bowling Green. Therefore, the Pace Car VINs themselves are not in sequence, although they are in numerical order.

Early in the Spring of 1995, Chevrolet issued a print-out of the “Indy Pace Car Build”, attaching Sequence Numbers to all 527 of the VINs that were assigned to the Pace Car Replicas. The computer read-out on this original Build sheet was poorly printed, and some entries were missing, or difficult or impossible to read. However, in April, Chevy superseded this list and issued a new “Domestic Build Sequence”, which was complete and readable. This Domestic Build list contained 502 entries.

Up through sequence number 293, the new Domestic Build list is the same as the earlier (total Build) one. But after number 293, 23 of the VINs were shifted to a “Canada/export” list, with a different sequencing, numbered 001 – 023. So 502 + 23 = 525, thus leaving 2 VINs unaccounted for, and without Sequence Numbers. These VINs are (last 5 digits) 13551 and 13640, which, in the original (total) Build list, correspond to “old” Seq.#496 and 515. As of the date of this posting (Feb.’08), these cars have not been registered with the Corvette Pace Car Registry, nor otherwise sequenced, to our knowledge, by GM.

Only 2 ’95 Pace Cars had the good fortune to have their sequence numbers resemble their VINs: Seq.# 69 (11569) and Seq.#211 (12211).
