The 2007 Indy 500 Corvette Pace Car
Reality vs. Replica !

March 30, 2007

Here is more information on the differences of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car vs. those being produced for sale to the public as "Replicas" - RPO Code "Z4Z", and even those being used as "Track / Festival" cars this year..

First of all these cars have several items that will not be produced or be a part of any regular Corvette or become an option on any Corvette.

Please note:

1. Wheels: the wheels on the car are from the 2008 Corvette. The paint / finish on them is something that was only created for this car or model, even the center caps. These wheels will be available on next years car but not in this color or finish.

2. The Cloisonné Badges (Wing & Wheel) on the fenders. These were supposed to be more of a body color but due to production problems they couldn't be done so black & chrome colors were chosen. (These are almost identical copies from the 2004 Impala "SS" Indy 500 version). These are made out of steel and glass, named after the process used to create them, "Cloisonné". The real Pace Cars (3) will not receive these due to the need to be visible from a distance on the track, they will just have larger Wing and Wheel decals.

3. Door plaque, each replica will have a door rocker plaque that says Corvette and is Stainless VS the black with the body color version that is on a regular production model. The Pace Cars (3) used at IMS for Pace Car duties will not have these items. ???Something to think about???

4. The center of the steering wheel on the real Pace Car has Atomic orange colored bezels where the Track / Festival cars have the standard gray.

5. Navigation system; Standard on the Replica cars, but not present on the Real Pace Car.

6. The Exhaust: on the real Pace Car Corvette, it has CORSA exhausts and the replicas have the standard issue.

7. Each Track / Festival replica will have a special (two color) number assigned to them that matches the paint and graphics and on the rear there will be a black one on the license plate area. There will also be the traditional "Flag Lot" parking lot sticker on the windshield, just under the rear view mirror.

8. Each Track / Festival replica will receive a 50th Anniversary 500 Festival Decal on the left rear bumper cover as this special Corvette helps them celebrate 50 years.

9. All of the Track / Festival Replicas will receive a special bag requiring the personnel to whom it is assigned to create a pedigree for the car which includes a booklet and camera in which the end purchaser will receive these showing its rich Indy Pace Car history.

10. And as usual each Track / Festival replica will receive a Chevrolet "Bowtie" pewter keychain with a brass tag with the car number stamped on it.

11. All these cars will receive a "Chevrolet " windshield header as none of the regular production Pace Car replicas will receive them, which is the balance of the 443 that are left for production in June.

12. European Tail Lights - on the Real Pace Cars, not on the Replicas...

Below are some comparison photos of the items we have found so far....

Above: "Real" Pace car #1 steering wheel..also note the absence of a Navigation system........ vs. the "Track / Festival" Corvette steering wheel and Navigation system..Actually, "Real" Pace Cars #2 and 3 also do NOT have the Orange steering wheel accents either!

Above; Do you remember this badge off the 2004 Chevrolet Impala SS Press Vehicles?? The 2007 Corvette Wing and Wheel side fender Cloisonné Badge. Close, but slightly different.

Above, the larger Wing and Wheel decal on the "real" Pace Car, needed to be visible from the spectator stands.

Track / Festival Corvettes will be identified in 3 locations with unique sequence numbers, the windshield, rear license plate, and .....

A small sequence number behind the license plate!

And here it is being applied at the Speedway.
