The 2004 Daytona 500 Pace Cars - Millennium Yellow Corvette Coupes!

The 2004 Daytona 500, the 46th running of the event, was the first race of the 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup season. It was held on February 15, 2004, at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Actor Ben Affleck was the Honorary Pace car driver this year to lead the field to the start of the race in Pace car #2. After the start, Pace car #1 took over the role of the Official Pace car for the remainder of the race, driven by Brett Bodine and was used during Caution periods when needed. Pace car #2 stood by as the backup if needed.

Finished in Millennium Yellow with red, white, and blue 2004 Daytona 500 graphics, alongside a black leather interior, this car boasts a range of features. It is equipped with the 5.7L/375 HP LS1 V-8 engine, complemented by a 4-speed automatic transaxle.

Other notable features include power steering and power 4-wheel disc brakes complete with ABS, a power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, sport bucket seats, dual-zone air conditioning, a Delco Bose AM/FM/CD sound system, a tachometer, cruise control, power windows, locks, and mirrors. and polished aluminum wheels, coupled with Goodyear Eagle radial tires, complete the ensemble.

Modifications to the Pace cars included the installation of Corsa Performance "Pace car" stainless steel Mufflers and X-Pipe system as well as the body Strobes and a custom-sculpted Strobe light bar that has been thoughtfully integrated for its pace-setting responsibilities. There were also several Pace car safety features: Simpson 3" wide lap belts; W2W modified bolt-in shoulder belt bar to hold fire extinguisher and strobe light power supply.

Pace car #2 is still owned by General Motors and on loan to the National Corvette Museum for their rotating display.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race, making this his first Daytona 500 victory exactly six years to the day after his father Dale Earnhardt Sr. won his first and only Daytona 500 in the 1998 race. Tony Stewart finished second and rookie Scott Wimmer finished third.
