Originally established in 1994 by Stu Robbins and Dennis Riddell, the Registry was reorganized during the first Pace Car Reunion held at the National Corvette Museum in October, 2001. The Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Registry is now intended as a gathering place for owners and enthusiasts of all Corvette Pace and Race Event Support Cars to discuss and research their special vehicles.
Here are some of our guiding principles:
All owners of Indianapolis 500 Corvette Pace Cars, especially but not limited to the 6 years (1978, 1986, 1995, 1998, 2007, and 2008) in which official replicas were produced by General Motors, as well as Indianapolis 500 Festival/Track/Dealer Promotion Corvettes are welcome.
For years where there were no replicas produced by GM, we welcome owners of Corvettes which are faithful reproductions of the Pace Cars used in Indianapolis in Corvette Pace Car-designated years. This includes 2003 50th Anniversary Corvettes, with replica 2002 Indy Pace Car decals, and authenticated replicas of other years (such as 2004, 2005, and 2006, etc).
Owners of Corvettes that provided support for other races held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Brickyard, Indy GP, F1, IMSA, etc.) are welcome as well as Corvette Pace and Support Cars from other race locations and sanctioning bodies (LeMans, Daytona, Sebring, etc.) are welcome.
Others who are interested in Corvette Pace Cars but do not currently own one are also welcome as members of the Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Registry.
We are a proud family of Corvette Pace Car enthusiasts; and our idea is to be more rather than less inclusive for Corvette Pace Cars, to document all members' cars, and to keep track of as many of these specialty Corvettes as we can. Ultimately, the information will also be of use to the National Corvette Museum, which we support, and to our members who wish to know about the origins and history of their Corvette Pace Cars (if used) at the track.
